"Are we there yet?"
"If you clones don't pipe down, I'll turn this vesicle around right now and go home!"
Instant silence. A minute drifted by. Another minute, then a couple more. Nature abhors a vacuum, even a noise vacuum, and sought something to fill it. The children obliged. "Mum, my sister is sticking her plasmid out at me!"
Dad groaned. Mum twisted around. "Why can't you be good little bacteria? My other clones never gave me so much strife. Just enjoy the trip for once." Stuck in the claustrophobic recesses of the human body for most of their lives, bacteria relished getting away for the weekend. A vacation to the Surface was the bacterial equivalent of a beachfront stay. Sweat droplets made refreshing thermal pools, while a patch of wrinkles threw up a chain of hills that begged to be climbed. To the north the forests were powdered with snow, and that was where the bacteria family were headed.
After what seemed like enough time to replicate an entire genome, a few snowflakes circled down and the bacteria knew they were close. The snow thickened quickly- some bacteria were lucky enough to live in humans that didn't believe in anti-dandruff shampoo.
