The koalaroo was pleased... very pleased, if you wanted to be specific. She had just successfully trialed a new invention, the De-Evap Brain Thing that, when worn, prevented the wearer's neocortex from evaporating in the heat of the day. With this remarkable patent-pending device, the koalaroo was adamant that she would escape the crippling silliness syndrome that so plagued her species and affected every single member of her family (except her, or course). Now rid of the debilitating horror, she was free to get on with her life, and enjoy the pleasures her eucalypt forest home had to offer, such as regular lyrebird concerts.

Acrylic on illustration board, 30.5 x 45 cm. 2006.

Lyrebirds and pale-barked eucalypts make for a wonderful Australian feel. I probably wouldn't blink if I saw a creature like that with the rest of the Australian fauna--except for the drink and the odd headgear, yes. 12

:-) Donna Quinn replies: "Thankyou for the lovely comment Joelle. The headgear was originally going to have a snail on it, but, you know, there has to be a line drawn somewhere. "

Your imagination seem to be an extraordinary one. I admire you for your style and originality of your works.

:-) Donna Quinn replies: "Thankyou very much Paula. I liked the style of this picture, as it seemed less tight and more loose than a lot of my others."

koalaroo... that’s very creative!. I love the forest in the background; a great contrast to the koalaroo who lookes very very pleased.

:-) Donna Quinn replies: "Thank you very much for the nice comment Alex; I’m sorry for the late reply."

Oh, she’s so cute! I love it!

:-) Donna Quinn replies: "Glad you think she’s cute; thanks Sarah!"

I love the look of this creature and how it is very sillily sentient. The forest in the background is gorgeous as well. Amazing detail.

:-) Donna Quinn replies: "Thank you very much Natalie! I was really pleased with the forest for two reasons: 1) it looks kind of messy and not immensely detailed, so it’s got a looseness to it; 2) I think I managed to get the Australian setting across."

AWWW!!! this is so awesome! I love the magical creatures that you paint! *glances at the picture again* Darn you’re good!

:-) Donna Quinn replies: "Thanks a bunch Agatha; I’m glad you liked it!"

The painting would be amazing in itself, even without the fantastic story. We only have hummingbirds here, they carry a tune well but keep forgetting the lyrics.
