Worthless idols of Babylon, all faceless man-made gods, could only roar impotently when confronted with the awesome might of the God of Israel. The light of His creation pierced them to the bone.

Computer-coloured pencil on paper; 21 x 29 cm. 2006.

They seem rather catlike. Don’t know why i think that.

:-) Donna Quinn replies: "I used to draw big cats to the point of obsessive boredom, so you may be on to something. Sorry for my late reply; thanks for your thoughts Keeana."

They have a great view up there. It’s an amazing picture. It looks like they are basking in the sunlight

:-) Donna Quinn replies: "Sorry for the late reply; thank you very much Saskia for the kind comment."

I love the interpretation and the symbolism, and the piece is terrific!

Except that the gods of Babylon weren’t faceless and they didn’t look like dracomorphic half humans. Give the fallen their due respect.

:-) Donna Quinn replies: "The description was strongly based off various Old Testament scripture; this is very, very much the attitude towards Babylonian gods that pervaded the OT. The picture... well, artistic licence is my prerogative and I thought they looked reasonably cool when I drew them; obviously this image, being over 2 years old, is outdated for me now.
I have to say, thank you Jeanette for not posting a critical comment such as this as "anonymous". 9 times out of 10, someone posting this comment would remain anonymous. It’s nice to get someone willing to put their name to their comment!"

The lighting here is stunning, it literally takes my breath away. It combines deep sadness with sincere beauty and savagery. As with all your works, it really seems to glow.

:-) Donna Quinn replies: "Wow, thanks a lot Katie, especially for the "glow" comment- I often think my work lacks luminousity... perhaps the situation’s not as bad as I thought! 10"
22 Jul 2009:-) Rebekah Dawn VanSlooten
Breathtaking. as Katie said, it glows!!! I especially like how you tilted the drawing, giving a different angle to the picture

:-) Donna Quinn replies: "I thought it was a cheap and easy way to get a dynamic perspective. 1 Thanks for the comment, Rebekah!"
25 Oct 2009:-) Kristen j lennox
i love the perspective in this-it looks like a scene from a film- but only better

:-) Donna Quinn replies: "That’s a big compliment- thank you Kristen!"
